#29 Rónán Kearney

Our wonderful guest this week is the unforgettable Rónán Kearney of Derry, Ireland! We truly enjoyed our conversation with Rónán as he shared with us his great sense of humor and his excitement and love for life!
Rónán was curious and willing to allow us take the lyrics of his song through the bible and he let us know that some of the things we perceived from the words were not as he intended, but he had left it open for interpretation for anyone who listens to be able to apply to their own lives.  He sees the hearts of glass and stone as one being able to share and the other putting up a wall.  He believes that even though we can share our thoughts, feelings and experiences in our songs that there still is a private part to remain hidden.  .  We know you will enjoy this visit with Rónán as we discuss with him his wonderful song entitled, “Heart of Glass, Heart of Stone.”

Lead Scripture:
Ezekiel 36:26
26 Moreover, I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; and I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh.”  (NASB)
God heals all hearts that come to him in truth.

LYRICS
HEART OF GLASS, HEART OF STONE

Heart of Glass, Heart of Stone
This is not just another day,
The way the sun did rise
It's a sign, a new way.
All families hold regrets,
your fathers choice
would affect the way that you felt.
Now you can't give your love away
How could we be that way
You have felt my heart of Glass , Oh no,
You can see right through me
feel the true me
since the moment we met in time.
Who's holding back the tears
From your mothers choice
To keep a family from falling to pieces.
Now you can't give your love away
How could we be that way,
Now you can't give your love away
Will this ever be undone
I can't feel your heart of stone, Oh no,
I can see right through you
feel the true you
Since the moment we met in time.
Holding on to fear
It's your own choice
To let go or hold on for years
Now you can't give your Love away

Scriptures from Interview
Ezekiel 36:26
“26 Moreover, I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; and I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh.”  (NASB)

2 Corinthians 3:3
“3 being manifested that you are a letter of Christ, cared for by us, written not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of human hearts.”  (NASB)
We all have the capacity to shut ourselves off from the world, to build a wall that can give us a heart of stone.  God says he will give us a heart of flesh, one that feels again.

Psalm 51:10
“10 Create in me a clean heart, O God.  Renew a right spirit within me.”

Acts 15:8
“8 He made no distinction between us and them, for he also cleansed their hearts through faith.”

Matthew 5:8
“8 God blesses those whose hearts are pure, for they will see God.”
God has promised to give us a new heart and cleans use.

Revelation 21:18
“18 The wall was made of jasper, and the city was pure gold, as clear as glass.”
The bible talks about glass, beautiful and transparent.  Our hearts can be transparent and fragile like glass or hard like stone.  God says he will give us a heart of flesh again.

Matthew 15:18a
18 But those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart…”

Proverbs 23:16
16 My soul will rejoice when your lips speak what is right.”
We all long to hear the right words, words of love, truth and encouragement.

2 Chronicles 16:12
12  …Asa was diseased in his feet, and his disease became severe; yet even in his disease he did not seek the Lord, but sought help from physicians.”
Many of us do the same today; we seek help from physicians, psychiatrists and counselors but do not ask the One who can heal all our wounds, including our hearts for help.  He is the Great Physician.

On Family

Psalm 128:1-4
1 Blessed is everyone who fears the Lord, who walks in his ways!  2 You shall eat the fruit of the labor of your hands; you shall be happy, and it shall be well with you. 3 Your wife will be like a fruitful vine within your house; your children will be like olive shoots around your table.Lo, thus shall the man be blessed who fears the Lord.”
If we love God and follow him then we will know love and share love and be happy.

Psalm 103:13a
“13Like a father pity’s his children…” (NLT)
We have compassion on our children.  That is a part of love.

Proverbs 14:1
“1A wise woman builds her house; a foolish woman tears hers down with her own hands.” (NLT)
The wise woman does all she can to keep her family together.  If we have decided to stay in a marriage relationship, then let us also decide to love.  The children must know love, and we need love too.

1 Peter 3:7
7In the same way, you husbands must give honor to your wives. Treat her with understanding as you live together. She may be weaker than you are, but she is your equal partner in God’s gift of new life. If you don’t treat her as you should, your prayers will not be heard.” (NLT)
We are commanded to love one another and to treat one another with loving kindness.

Matthew 18:2-6
“2 And He (Jesus) called a child to Himself and set him before them,3 and said, “Truly I say to you, unless you are converted and become like children, you will not enter the kingdom of heaven.4
Whoever then humbles himself as this child, he is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. And whoever receives one such child in My name receives Me; but whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to stumble, it would be better for him to have a heavy millstone hung around his neck, and to be drowned in the depth of the sea.”  (NASB)
Jesus said we are to become like little children to enter the kingdom of heaven.  Children love and trust us, their parents.  We are to love and trust our Father God.  Jesus also said if anyone causes such a child to sin then it is a very bad thing.  It is our responsibility as parents are to bring up our children in love and teach them to love.

Isaiah 28:10
“10 For it is precept upon precept, precept upon precept, line upon line, line upon line,
here a little, there a little.”

Through history we have tended to take scripture out of context and leave out the whole big picture.  The whole big picture is one of LOVE!  We cannot just live by words and laws alone.  We are to love God and love one another. To live by the law and rules alone would be like living with just a book full of words and being left alone with no love and no companionship.  We are not alone.  God did not leave us alone.  We have the Holy Spirit given to us and we feel His presence in our hearts.  Anyone who calls upon the Name of the Lord Jesus for salvation and forgiveness of sins will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit and never be alone.

The Excellence of Love

1 Corinthians 13:1-8a
1 If I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but do not have love, I have become a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy, and know all mysteries and all knowledge; and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. And if I give all my possessions to feed the poor, and if I surrender my body to be burned, but do not have love, it profits me nothing. Love is patient, love is kind and is not jealous; love does not brag and is not arrogant, does not act unbecomingly; it does not seek its own, is not provoked, does not take into account a wrong suffereddoes not rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
Love never fails…” (NASB)
We need love to be fully alive!  Love is a choice.  Love never fails.
