#26 Tom O'Rose

Life is a gift, and it’s beautiful really. These are some wonderful things Tom spoke about in our interesting discussion with him.
Tom spoke of how we live in a world where we are bombarded by things in the media with so much of it focusing on what is bad.  Look around at every part of the world and see that people are made in the image of God and basically good and caring.  Tom love’s this gift of life that’s been given to him and believes it is important how we live it and that we should appreciate and enjoy it.  He says he believes that this life here and now is our “Promise Land”.   Tom was moved to write this song in memory of his good friend John Wiley-Hall who has now passed on, and some of John’s very words and sentiments are shared with us in this piece Tom has entitled, “Hallowed Ground.”

Lead Scripture:
Enjoy Life
Ecclesiastes 11:9a and 10
9 Rejoice, young man, during your childhood, and let your heart be…….. 10 So, remove grief and anger from your heart and put away pain from your body, because childhood and the prime of life are fleeting.
Enjoy this life God has given you while you have breath.  Yes, we all know we will leave this earthly body someday, so don’t be sad or angry, look at what is good and be thankful and enjoy the blessing that God has given you for this life!  It’s a beautiful life!

LYRICS
HALLOWED GROUND

To never be lonely.
To never feel afraid.
To know where you will stand,
When the rain falls.

To hold your head up high
When love walks away.
To find your time and your place
On hallowed ground.

We’ll meet again when the spirit’s high and the heart is strong.
Oh, we’ll meet again somewhere over the rainbow.
So keep your eyes open,
And never look away.

Always believe that the promised land,
Is here and now.
We’re governed by wolves,
Living in a nation of sheep.
Yeah, the pigs own it all,
And they like it when you sleep.

Together again now the spirit’s high and the heart is strong.
Together again we will overcome.
We shall overcome.

"This is a song for my good friend John Wiley-Hall the closest person to being ‘saintly’ I have had the good fortune to meet. He died last month run over by a motorbike in his prime at 82 years old. I stayed in John’s apartment last summer and watered his prize geraniums – he was always there when I needed him. John was quite political and we had many discussions about the state of the world - so this tribute is a kind of protest song. If John taught me anything it is that ‘who we are’ comes before ‘what we do’ and that very often it is best to do nothing at all and just ‘be. John touched so many people, God, I will miss him."

Scriptures from Interview
Never Alone

Hebrews 13:5b
5 Let your conduct be without covetousness; be content with such things as you have.  For He Himself has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” (NKJV)
Jesus has promised that He would never leave us alone…that is for now and for eternity.

Romans 5:5
5 Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us.” (NKJV)

John 7:39
“39 But this He spoke concerning the Spirit, whom those believing in Him would receive; for the Holy Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified.”

Luke 11:13
“13 If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him!”
The Holy Spirit has been given unto us.  This is the presence of God with us always.

Do Not Fear

Psalm 23:4
Even when I walk through the dark valley of death, I will not be afraid, for you are close beside me.
Your rod and your staff protect and comfort me.

Romans 8:38
And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from his love. Death can’t, and life can’t. The angels can’t, and the demons can’t. Our fears for today, our worries about tomorrow, and even the powers of hell can’t keep God’s love away.

Isaiah 41:10
“10 Do not fear, for I am with you;  Do not anxiously look about you, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you, surely I will help you,  Surely I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.”  (NASB)
God tells us to trust him and not be afraid.

Assurance

Hebrews 10:22-2322 let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. 23 Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful.”  (NKJV)

Ephesians 1:13
13 In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that Holy Spirit of promise,
When we have asked the Lord into our heart then we have the assurance of faith within us and we know where we will go.

Ephesians 3:12
Because of Christ and our faith in him, we can now come fearlessly into God’s presence, assured of his glad welcome.
It is an awesome privilege to be able to approach God with freedom and confidence. Most of us would be apprehensive in the presence of a powerful ruler. But thanks to Christ, by faith we can enter directly into God’s presence through prayer. We know we’ll be welcomed with open arms because we are God’s children through our union with Christ. Don’t be afraid of God. Talk with him about everything. He is waiting to hear from you.

Heaven

Psalm 89:2
Your faithfulness You shall establish in the very heavens.” (NKJV)
2For I have said, “Mercy shall be built up forever;
God shows us his faithfulness now and he will show us also in heaven.  His word is truth.

2 Chronicles 6:29
Then hear from heaven where you live, and forgive. Give your people whatever they deserve, for you alone know the human heart.
Our God who sits in heaven is a loving father who forgives us. Because He knows we are humans.

Hebrews 8:1
Here is the main point: Our High Priest sat down in the place of highest honor in heaven, at God’s right hand.
This is about Jesus, who is the only high priest of the heaven. He sits in right hand of God and prays to Him about us, so we can get stronger and survive till the end of this journey.

Isaiah 66:22
“As surely as my new heavens and earth will remain, so will you always be my people, with a name that will never disappear,” says the Lord.
The Promised Land which is eternal and the place where we all will meet again and live forever.

Truth

John 17:17
17 Sanctify them by Your truth.  Your word is truth.” (NKJV)
God’s word is truth and we can trust all He says.
